The Ceramic Egg Cup
Both, in France and Spain the egg plays an important role in the kitchen and on the breakfast, lunch and dinner table.
In both countries there are countless hand crafted and hand decorated ceramic products that are centered around the egg. Whether it's the ceramic bowl to beat an egg to make scrambled eggs, or just the ceramic hand painted and handmade humble egg cup.
In Spain they are very colourful and cute but more naïve in décor, while in France there is no end to find a stylish and elegant ceramic egg cup. A lot of them have a little saucer attached to rest a spoon and one can tell that any potter has a lot of fun in designing and making these ceramic egg cups.
Also in France and mainly in the Provence, one can find the ceramic egg tray or ceramic egg holder. If you have never seen them you will wonder why one would even consider this but eggs are better kept at room temperature in the kitchen than in the fridge. Egg shells are slightly porous and pick up all the smells and flavours inside a fridge hence it's better to keep them outside.

As in shops they come in six or twelve egg trays, are reasonably priced and will surprise anybody visiting your kitchen. Only such colourful and carefully decorated ceramics can achieve the result of bringing a smile to your guests.
From the ceramic egg tray the next step is the hand made and hand painted ceramic egg cup. The joy of eating a soft boiled egg on a Sunday morning out of hand made pottery is greater than one can imagine.
This ceramic egg cup could, of course, be used also for other purposes such as an ice cream dish for the small sweet taste. A tiny ice cream served in a ceramic egg cup is ideal to change the pallet after a great meal without feeling guilty about having a ‘dessert'.
In Spain one can also find the different type of ceramic egg holder, for hard boiled eggs. In England one would find it ideal for devilled eggs with a space for celery salt or similar in the middle.
